It may seem as if Merms and I have fallen off the face of the earth. Close. But we were just extremely crazy busy this fall.

BUT:

1) We’re working on a play together.

2) We’re still playing together.

3) We’re learning CHRISTMAS MUSIC.

Pittsburgh Biking Adventure

Whilst the rest of the East Coast was being rained on by Hurricane/ Tropical Storm Irene, it was a perfect day in Pittsburgh. My dad and I decided to go on a ride through the Burgh. My dad is a real biker…I am merely an amateur, but we had a wonderful day!

I’m a pro.

New friends Tyler, Jordan, and Eric! I felt proud of my sixteen miles of biking this afternoon…until they started telling me about their trip from Seattle, Washington. They’ve been biking since early June, averaging about 100 miles a day. My achievement suddenly seemed much less impressive.

Clearly, this made me yearn for an adventure. I want one!

It’s thunderstorming outside. And while I should be preparing for auditions, we all know that thunderstorms are synonymous with crappy movie watching time. So I thought I would post the guidelines that my roommate and I constructed after having a teenychickbopmoviemarathon consisting of Wildchild (starring Emma Roberts), Bandslam (with powerhouses Alison Michalka and Vanessa Hudgens) and What A Girl Wants (starring the Marlon Brondo of teen movies, Amanda Bynes). After we watched these movies, we analyzed tirelessly and came up with this set of guidelines:

-guy and a girl from different backgrounds (forbidden love is preferred, but age difference, class difference or different nationalities is also acceptable) See: My Date With the President’s Daughter.

-estranged/dead/abandoned parent and a memento of them (necklace, old crappy photo, scarf, maybe a piece of their hair…)

-kooky dance break (!) it lightens the tension of an ever so stressful teen movie

-A weird older brother or sister, people in college are always so strange! See: Sleepover.

-taking strict people and making them cool! (teenagers always know more than stupid adults!!!) See: Ms. Geist from Clueless.

-fashion montage See: The Lizzie McGuire Movie

-happy fun-time montage- usually backed with a less talented version of Katy Perry singing a song about girl power.

-“fun date!” montage- must end with a sunset, or ‘Its so late! I have to get home!’

-sad lonely acoustic montage after the main character has messed everything up, but not enough for any permanent damage to be done, she and her friends, parents and love interest will all be together again soon (most likely in the next scene). See: The Cheetah Girls 2

-bitchy blonde antagonist with a frumpy name (like Beth) who is almost, but never quite as attractive as the main character. If they are initially dating/ interested in the main characters love interest, that is a plus.

-bitchy blonde’s less attractive lackies, usually slightly chubby brunette girls, so as not to draw focus away from the head bitchy blonde. See: Revenge of the Bridesmaids

-people with poorly executed accents

-a dance/prom/formal of some sort, the main characters dress is always the best/ most slutty/ most eccentric See: ALL TEEN MOVIES

-the main character is blessed with the natural ability to take frumpy dresses and turn them into fashion masterpieces. See: Sleepover, makeover scene. Wild Child, makeover scene. Clueless, makeover scene. Pretty much every teen movie has a makeover scene.

-Wild Americans! Or Wild Foreigners! See: Passport to Paris.

-Goofy sidekicks, one who is much smarter than the main character, but not quite as socially savvy. The other is just there for comic relief, extra points if they are overweight. See: Alexa Vega’s clique in Sleepover

-brushing hair out of face moment, usually done by the love interest to the main character followed by a cheesy quote that the writer thought was original. “you’re the best thing to come into this town since the Lays potato chip factory’

-an innate sense of sarcasm that there is no way the main character could have developed by the age of 14, but we’ll trust them on their cultural references anyway. See: Easy A, Wild Child, Bandslam, Sleepover, Princess Protection Program…etc.

-unrealistic pressure situation that leads to bonding for example: two people get stuck together cleaning the cafeteria or else they get expelled! Somebody spills their bin of soap, someone slips. Both giggle. Friendship ensues. See: Disney Channel’s: Double Teamed.

-voice overs “I know what you’re thinking…parents STINK” See: Freaky Friday

-a wise elder who cares for the main character even though they really aren’t that great “trust me (name of main character, probably Eve), I know right now you’re frustrated, but sometimes that’s a part of growing up” See: Natasha Richardson’s character in Wild Child.

-“so in the end…” narration with pan out ending

Additional Points (this means the movie is extremely good):

-A singing moment where we realize the main character is unfathomably talented (or lip syncing, but honestly what’s the difference these days) or a talent show.

-School principle gets pied in the face (take that society!!!)

-A very subtle reference to sex.

-Crimped hair See: Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen

-The mean girl clan has coordinated outfits

-A rousing monologue to inspire the ‘losers’ of the school to rise against and rebel against the popular kids.

et VOILA! A masterpiece garunteed to be watched by awesome girls who have nothing better to do during a thunderstorm or any other day really. We could write it, it could be famous. Even be the next Aquamarine or, even better, Sleepover.
